The Weekend Whim: April 2015

Instagram April 2015
Pictures from my Instagram
Happy Sunday, lovely people! This week has been a rather hectic one for me, filled with volunteering at the museum, dashing off to university tutorials, a visit to the cinema to see The Age of Ultron, and, er, maybe a whole day spent watching the second series of Broadchurch (I'm hooked you guys!). So, before time rushes away and I find myself halfway through May (seriously, where does time go?), here's a round up of all things April...

Weekend #3: January 2015 Round Up

Instagram January 2015
Photos from my instagram

Now that January's drawing to a close, it's starting to feel like we're 'properly' settled into 2015 now (early January is just an extension of Christmas, amirite?). Although it has to be said that the amount of snow we've been having at the moment is making it feel like Christmas all over again. So, I'm going to take a few minutes snuggled up with a huuuge blanket to write about bits and pieces from January. Enjoy!

Finding My Style

Finding my Style

In the past few months, I have been having a wardrobe dilemma. I used to have a clearly defined sense of style, which meant that both getting dressed in a morning and shopping for clothes were simple. However, since becoming more interested in making my own clothes, and seeing the possibilities that come from that, my style seems disjointed and all over the place. I find myself only wearing a small part of my wardrobe - not wearing things I've made, as well as things I've bought. However, I recently discovered the problem with my buying and making habits, which has enabled me to make a change.

How to: Cut Out Jeans

Cut Out Knee Jeans Tutorial
Hello, cold knees!
At the moment, it seems that any crafting time I have is being taken up with a certain project involving crochet flowers. It was therefore very nice to become reacquainted with the sewing machine this week, as I ticked off a project I've been meaning to complete for a while now - a pair of cut out jeans. I'm glad I got around to making these now, as I don't think my knees would be able to survive any cooler temperatures!

What I'm Loving: November 2014

What I'm Loving: November 2014
Photos from my Instagram
November has sped by at an alarming rate, and I'm ashamed to say that I've only just started to think about Christmas! I've been using the dark evenings as an excuse to start new boxsets, drink copious amounts of nutella hot chocolate, and prepare for new craft projects. Most of these being based around the winter ahead, but any excuse for anything jumper related is good for me!

What I'm Loving: October 2014

Photos from my Instagram profile
Let's just take a ten minute break from carving pumpkins, applying spooky make up, watching scary movies, having a quiet evening in, or whatever else it is you're doing this Halloween night, and let me tell you about everything October.

What I Have Sewn: The Mix and Match Sweatshirt

SIY Fluffy Denim Sweatshirt

It feels like quite an accomplish to finally tick something off my winter projects list. I mentioned this jumper/sweatshirt briefly in my post on projects in planning, but if you've missed that, let me bring you up to speed...

Wearing: Burda Square Neck 111

WIWT Burda Square Neck 111

Let's talk about my latest project. I'm pretty sure if I was on Sewing Bee, that this top would see me immediately disqualified from the competition. The fabric is facing the wrong way up, I had a complete disregard for pattern matching, and it's rather obvious that my pattern isn't central either. Oops... But if the amount of wear I've got out of this top since making it is anything to go by, it is a anything but a failure.

What I'm Wearing: Stripes + Bikes

Striped Jumper Bike Brooch

Stripes are such a wardrobe classic, that you can hardly ever go wrong with them. However, stripes are something I've only recently let into my wardrobe, mainly because I used to be more of a spot person. I am slowly building up a collection of stripes though, simply because they are so easy to wear, and look great for any occasion. Here's how I am wearing stripes at the moment...

What I'm Wearing - Checked Denim and Cut Out Flats

OOTD Checked Denim and Cut Out Flats

I had a spend up in Primark this weekend, which is great because a spend up in Primark never actually comes to as much money as you think it will. For me, it's one of those places that's either spot on, or has absolutely nothing that I like. At the moment however, I'm having a little love affair with some of their stock - particularly their range of denim dungarees and dresses. Denim is my go to saviour, so I naturally fell in love with this checked denim dress.

What I'm Wearing: Florals and a Dungaree Dress

OOTD Floral Blouse and Dungaree Dress

I honestly have no idea how I coped before I bought a dungaree dress. It has opened up so many possibilities for the number of tops and blouses I have, and I can wear it both summer and winter. It's such a hardworking little number that you'll find me wearing it on a regular basis, without becoming bored of it.

What I'm Wearing: Posh Frocks in Day Time

Spotty Dress Outfit

I was rummaging through my wardrobe recently, during a "I have nothing to wear" crisis, when I rediscovered this dress. I can definitely see why I bought it: spots: check, peter pan collar: check, 60s vibe: check. I can also see why I don't really wear it often enough - namely that it is a rather fancy dress to be wearing to rather unfancy places e.g. Sainsbury's. I'm not quite brave enough to do a Holly Golightly and wear my glad rags wherever I please, so I tried to make this dress more casual, and I think I succeeded.

What I'm Wearing: Preppy Dots with a Touch of Red

What I'm Wearing: Preppy Dots with a Touch of Red

I don't very often talk fashion on here, but the truth is I love clothes. I don't usually stray from my own personal style, but sometimes new trends I see will inspire a DIY or two. That said, most of my wardrobe isn't handmade (unfortunately, but maybe one day), and like everybody else I love a little retail therapy every now and again. This is the kind of outfit that I'm wearing at the moment.
