Thrifty Finds - No 4

Brogues, Satchel, Encyclopaedia

If my recent haul of clothes/books/homeware (mostly books) is anything to go by, I've obviously spent a lot of time shopping in the past few weeks. What you're seeing here, is truly the crème de la crème of my recent buys, because there was a lot for me to choose from. Although I love all of my recent buys so much, I would quite happily post them all here!

I See All Picture Encyclopeadia
You will either swoon over this purchase, or not really understand why I paid £4.99 for what is essentially an outdated, tatty encyclopaedia which is held together with duct tape. Well, I See All is a vintage "picture dictionary", and works exactly like a dictionary, but with pictures. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then all in all, I See All is a millionaire. The editor's letter is very interesting, as he believed I See All would contend with (if not, replace!) the dictionary, and whilst he was obviously wrong, I think it's a great shame that books like this have lost out to the internet. It's visually stunning, and full of words that have been lost to time. Another reason I bought it, was that I knew it would make a great prop for photos, and I've already used it on a couple of occasions. You can get a better look at the inside of I See All here, and here.

Green Topshop Satchel
I'm not kidding when I say that pretty much all of the bags I own are satchels. When I come across a stunner like this Topshop one though, there's always room for one more. I liked the smaller size of this satchel, as well as the fact that the lovely shade of emerald matches my favourite cosy scarf. Yes, I said scarf people. Let's not ignore the distinct Autumn chill in the air. This satchel came from my favourite second hand shop (a snip at £5.99), and I can see me getting a lot of use out of it.

White Faith Brogues
I remember first seeing this pair of shoes in the Faith section of Debenhams, and loving everything about them. White, chunky heeled, with a scalloped trim, and a £50 price tag, I was very sad to have to leave this pair of shoes behind. However, the recent sale at Debenhams has been phenomenal, and when I saw these shoes going for £15, I snapped them up in a heartbeat. They are super comfy, and the white colour means that I can wear my beloved brogues in summer as well as in the cooler months. When I collected these in store, I actually picked up another pair of shoes from the sale, which are divine too. Needless to say, I've since banned myself from going in to Debenhams in the near future, because my shoe cupboard is fit to burst. I have no regrets.

Deer Trinket Pot
This trinket pot was another find from the Debenhams sale, and the only reason I bought it was that I needed to spend £5 to make up the amount on a gift card. However, I've been really pleased with this purchase - the pot is a very generous size, and although it has a deer on the lid, I actually think it is quite a minimal piece - perfect for a busy desk.

The Cat's Pyjamas

Grabby Cat
Finally, this guy. He was 50p, and I was fascinated with his grabby arms. He will basically hold on to anything, which is rather fun. He has been hiding all over the house in numerous places, scaring people with his sinister smile. The fact he's wearing pyjamas also pleases me - he's the cat's pyjamas! groan...
